Articles
should be submitted in the form of a letter to the editor,
an editorial, an article on a subject of educational or professional
interest, a short piece on social or personal news, or a notice
of an event of interest to members. Humorous pieces are also
welcome.
If you have any suggestions on topics to
be included in the Journal or wish to invite a colleague from
a related profession to write a feature article, then please
contact the editor (via email) in the first instance. |

| Length |
|
Letters
to the editor, editorials, notices, social news and humorous
pieces should be less than 500 words. Full articles should
be no more than 1000 words |
|

|
| Format/presentation of article |
|
All articles should
include a title, full names of all authors and their work
addresses, an email address and telephone number for the corresponding
author.
If possible, articles should be prepared
in Word and sent to the editors (Editorial Team)
by email. If you do not have access to email, then please
post a hard copy of your article and disk to Anna Paton, 132 Mayfield Road, Edinburgh, EH9 3AH. |

| Illustrations |
|
Photographs
and illustrations are encouraged. Each should have a caption
and should be submitted either in digital form (jpeg or gif
file) by email attachment or as a hard copy in the post. If
sent as hard copy, photographs should be submitted as glossy
prints and diagrams should be clearly drawn using black ink.

If
another article is mentioned in your contribution, a full
reference should be given to that article. Please use the
following style:
Mannion S, Hart A. The 1999 London Bombings: The St Thomas’

| Borrowed material |
|
If your article includes
material that has been published elsewhere, please ensure
that you have obtained written permission from the copyright
holder (which may either be the author or the publisher).
A form for obtaining permission can be obtained from the editors.
The editors and the publisher reserve the
right to edit any material that is submitted to the Journal.
Submission of an article does not guarantee its publication
in JMS. |

| Copyright |
|
The
BSMS has the copyright to all articles published in the Journal.
This means that the BSMS has to be informed and give permission
if a third party wishes to reproduce a JMS article in another
journal or book.
When an article is accepted for publication
in JMS, the authors agree to transfer the copyright to the
British Society of Medical Secretaries.
Authors who have had their article published
in JMS may send their article to another journal or book for
publication as long as they inform the editors of JMS and
ensure that the other book or journal acknowledges that it
was first published in JMS (by including a full reference,
for example Williams V. Clinical Freedom Versus Clinical Governance.
Network 2000; 1: 15).
Articles submitted to JMS must be original
and must not have been published before (except in the form
of an abstract or as part of a published lecture); articles
must not be submitted for publication elsewhere; and all authors
must agree to publication.
